Blue Carbon Society, in collaboration with the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) and the Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya, Trang Campus (RMUTSV), welcomed Pol. Gen. Patcharawat Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, and executives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE). They presented a project to establish a Marine Animal Rehabilitation & Centre of Excellences. Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director-General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, along with the executives of DMCR and the university, participated in the presentation at the project site in Trang Province.

This collaborative project between DMCR, the university and Blue Carbon Society comprises three components: a marine life rehabilitation centre, a research centre for excellence in dugong and endangered marine animal studies, and a learning centre for marine and coastal environmental systems. The research centre will serve as the main entity to drive dugong conservation efforts and coordinate comprehensive conservation management strategies in all dimensions. The goal is to protect, care for, and continuously increase the number of dugongs in their natural habitat.
