Blue Carbon Society (BCS) joined a forum hosted by Thailand’s environment ministry in Bangkok on World Oceans Day to find ways to tackle ocean plastic waste. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment gathered government officials, NGO heads, and industry experts at Siam Pavalai Royal Grand Theatre to find ways to protect the seas around Thailand and beyond. A 40-minute film produced by the ministry premiered after the discussion, highlighting plastic products discarded through sea tourism. Dr. Jwanwat Ahriyavraromp, co-founder of BCS and the CEO of Shellhut Entertainment, was presented with a statuette by General Surasak Kanchanarat, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, for BCS’s support of the event and its efforts to preserve and restore marine and coastal ecosystems. “BCS is honored to assist in this outstanding initiative from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to address this vital challenge for Thailand and the world,” said Dr. Ahriyavraromp. “The pilot whale that died last week in Thai waters after swallowing over 80 plastic bags shows why events such as today’s forum are important. But today’s message from government leaders, industry experts and NGOs is that every sector is eager to tackle the issue.”
